William “Dempsey” Freeman • May 28, 2021
William “Dempsey” Freeman, 84 of Pensacola, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021 at his home. He was born October 11, 1936, in Pensacola Florida, the son of Dewey Freeman and Nina (Benton) Freeman. He attended Pensacola High School and at the age of 18 he enlisted in the US Navy. He was a mechanic at Vince Whibbs Pontiac for several years before having to retire.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Liz Bearden, his siblings, Frank, John, Lavaughn, Ray, and Agnes Freeman. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce (Finch) Freeman, his children, Bill (Becky)Freeman, Diane (Charles)Kyser, Michele (Morgan)Miller as well as 11 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren. Surviving siblings Bob (Christine)Freeman, June Brazwell, Charlie Freeman and Elsie Strickland.
Dempsey was a dedicated follower of Jesus and loved his family and will be missed by many. He was a member of Lawton Street Baptist Church where he served as Senior Deacon as well as various other roles. He loved listening to southern gospel music and watching the Braves play baseball.
A visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home on Thursday, June 3, 2021, with family visitation beginning at 9:00 to 9:30AM; Public visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30AM with a service to follow.
