Sylvia Hall Ward • August 20, 2021
Sylvia Hall Ward, 78, was born on January 31, 1943, in Pensacola, Florida, to Elijah Marion Hall and Dorothy Adele Bodiford. One of five children, Sylvia shared an unbreakable bond with her sisters. Their kinship, grounded by principles of faith, honesty, inclusion, and appreciation, influenced future generations to celebrate the importance of family tradition. Having created a large, blended family of her own, the role of mother and grandmother was one of Sylvia’s most prized accomplishments.
Sylvia began her construction career working for Edwards Roofing Company. At the age of 35, in 1978, Sylvia joined a family venture, L&L General Contractors. After 10 years of commitment to L&L, Sylvia took a leap of faith, alongside her husband of 36 years, Raymond Ward, and opened R. D. Ward Construction. Their business grew into one of Northwest Florida’s most trusted and respected companies. Erecting schools, hospitals, banks, community centers, and more, the endless hours of dedication to her customers and employees highlighted her altruistic character and aspirations to incite positive change across the community. Sylvia retired in 2017, spending her time playing laughter-filled games of dominoes, enjoying her ever-expanding family, and watching beautiful Perdido Bay sunsets from her back porch.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; Elijah Hall and Adele Bodiford, and siblings; Mildred Lee, Eulene Franklin (Dave), and Joyce Jernigan (Luther).
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Raymond Ward, sister, Wanda Ewing (Ralph), children; John Desposito, Pam Silcox (Darwin), Steven Desposito (Jennifer), David Ward (Amy), and Deanna Ricker (Dave), grandchildren; Ashley Monn (Marcus), Glenn Desposito (Kristee), Sutton Ward (Rachel), Amanda Myers (Steven), Kris Desposito, Jackson Ward, Madison Ward, Shelby Ricker, Mackenzie Desposito, Cameron Silcox, Chase Desposito, Sidney Ricker, Winston Ward, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Sylvia’s last moments were holding the hands of her husband, peacefully leaving this world on August 20, 2021. Take comfort in knowing that Sylvia’s salvation promises eternal splendor in Heaven; God has healed her completely.
