Sidney “Sid” May • August 31, 2022
On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, Sidney A. May was called home to be with our Lord. Sid was born on October 14, 1934, in Pensacola, FL. He grew up in Pensacola, FL among numerous family and friends. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1953 and attended Pensacola Junior College. He joined the Air Force shortly after high school and was part of the 92nd Supply Squadron. He served at both Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, WA, and Anderson Air Force Base in Guam.
He met his lovely wife of 67 years, Mary, in Spokane, WA while serving his country. They were married on June 29th, 1955, in Pomeroy, WA. After moving to Guam, Sid and Mary had their first child, Greg and remained on the island for two years. After their discharge from the Air Force, they moved to Pensacola, FL and had their second child, Cheryl.
Sidney joined Ed White’s where he was employed in Pensacola, FL and then Corpus Christi, TX. They lived in Corpus for three years before returning to Pensacola to raise their family. Sid joined Greenhut Construction Company where he was a Construction Superintendent for many years. He loved his work and oversaw the construction of numerous military and healthcare buildings in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.
Upon retirement, he and Mary loved to travel in their motorhome and abroad. They met many lifetime friends and maintain contact with them even today.
Sid was a wonderful father and husband who loved country music, western movies, golf, fishing, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed being part of the Pensacola JayCees and was a Mason. He was passionate about woodworking and restored numerous pieces of furniture that his wife and children enjoy today.
Sid was preceded in death by his mother and father, Venie and Herman May; his brother, Eddie; his sister, Shirley Moog and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. His remaining family include his wife, Mary; son Greg May (Hannah); daughter, Cheryl Sadro (Frank); grandsons, Ben May, Nick May, Ryan May, and Connor Sadro; granddaughter, Carson Sadro; great-grandkids, Ella, Nolan, Callie, Ryland, and Matilda; sister, Margie Switzer and many extended family members including cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 11 am at Pensacola Memorial Gardens, 7433 Pine Forest Road, Pensacola, FL 32526. Committal service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. A live stream is available for those who are unable to attend; see below to watch.
