Robert Derwood Meredith, age 79, passed away May 18, 2023 at his home in Gulf Breeze, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents Franklin Meredith and Voncile Pittman Meredith. He is survived by his wife Doris Crumpler Meredith, the love of his life for over sixty-one years, his sons Dean Meredith, Daniel Meredith, Dennis (Channin) Meredith; seven grandchildren: Jonathan Meredith, Justin (Cassie) Meredith, Crysta Meredith, Rebecca (Jacob) Exum, Ryan Meredith, Andrew (Veronica) Meredith and Brianna Meredith; and four great grandchildren: Joey Meredith, Jax Storie, Melina Meredith and Charlotte Storie.
He was born in Munson, Florida on June 29th, 1943. The family moved to Pensacola, Florida where he attended Tate High School where he met Doris. Derwood was a private person and a man of few words however you knew where you stood with him. He was the owner and operator of Meredith & Sons Lumber Company, a successful four generation family business. He was especially proud to have his sons Dean, Daniel and Dennis working with him for many years where he practiced honesty, integrity and hard work ethics as core values that he instilled in his sons and employees. He truly appreciated the numerous loyal customers their company had over the years, many of whom became good friends to him and his family.
Derwood leaves behind his loving and caring wife, Doris Meredith. They were so devoted to each other that they renewed their vows on their anniversary every 20 years of their 61 years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling and gardening. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren.
