Rev. William Herbert Owen, Jr. age 70, of Cantonment, Florida passed from this life to his Savior’s arms on September 11, 2019, at his home in Cantonment, Florida.
He was born on December 9, 1948 in Pell City, AL to William Herbert Owen, Sr. (deceased) and Frances Louise Carlisle Owen of Milton, FL and reared in Pell City, AL and Gulf Breeze, FL with his three sisters and two brothers. Bill studied at Pensacola Jr. College, but was graduated with a master’s degree from Luther Rice University in Lithonia, Georgia.
It was at Pensacola Jr. College, where he met Evelyn Louise Wells, whom he married in Flomaton, AL in 1969. Evelyn was the love of his life and his best friend for 50 years of marriage. To their union was born a son, William H. Owen, III of Cantonment, FL and a daughter, Angela M. Owen Thompson of Cantonment, FL. Of all his accomplishments, Bill enjoyed most, raising his children and shaping their young lives while managing his construction company and later following the Lord’s call to the gospel ministry. Having lived in many places, his favorite home was on the mission field in Majahaul, Mexico. He delighted in sharing the gospel of Christ in Moldova, Ecuador and Brazil, especially along the Amazon River and was used of the Lord greatly.
Bill Owen is predeceased by his father, William H. Owen, Sr. and son-in-law, Alan Thompson. Bill Owen is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn Wells Owen of Cantonment, FL; son, William H. Owen, III (Kim) of Cantonment, FL; daughter, Angela Owen Thompson of Cantonment, FL; grandchildren, Heather Owen and Timothy Owen of NC; grandsons, Caleb Melvin and Brandon Melvin of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Ashleigh Michelle and Thomas Cameron Thompson of Cantonment, FL; sister, Nelda Potts of Rome, GA; sister, Blenda Wiggins of Milton, FL; brother, Richard Owen of Milton, FL; brother, Robert Owen of Navarre, FL; and sister, Myra Carter ;of Milton, FL. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear church friends.
Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 9AM to 10AM on Saturday, September, 14, 2019 for a home-going service with Rev. Darrell Black officiating. Bill Owen had a heart for missions. A memorial fund to support the ongoing mission work has been established. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Bill Owen Ministries, Inc. 501 (c) (3), 204-4 Eden Lane, Cantonment, FL 32533.
