Phil Phillips • October 3, 2022

Charles “Phil” Richard Phillips, 82, of Pensacola passed away Monday, October 3, 2022. Phil was born in Richmond, Virginia on November 3, 1939 to Forest C. and Bell Duke Phillips. He served in the US Navy for 2 ½ years and was an automobile mechanic. Phil was not a member of any church but believed in God and was of the Baptist faith. His favorite Bible verses were John 3:16 and Psalms 23, among several others. He also enjoyed Gospel singing.

Phil had multiple hobbies that he enjoyed but his most favorite was bass fishing with his wife, Janet, and their dog, Mitzie. Mitzie was like their baby, she would curl up on the couch next to Phil and wait for those massages that she loved so much. She enjoyed boat rides and camping just as much as Phil. Unfortunately, the time came that he had to give up his adventures on the boat due to safety and health issues. Phil loved to take his metal detector everywhere he went and as he went to new areas he would search to see what he could find under the ground. He had plenty of stories to share with us on our times together. Being with his family was some of his most enjoyable moments.

Phil’s holiday experiences were just as exciting to be involved with and share with others. He loved decorating the outside of his home for Halloween and Christmas. When he finished it was awesome for all to see how illuminating it was. Phil and Janet also enjoyed the gatherings with their close friends as we celebrated birthdays and the holidays as often as possible. Each time was like a family reunion where there was so much love shared by all.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Bell Phillips; and his first wife of 37 years, Janice.

He is survived by his wife of 15 ½ years, Janet, whom he loved dearly; and his dog, Mitzie, that he loved so much and treated her like ‘one of the kids’; and of course his closest friends, Jim and Barbara Steward; as well as, many other dear friends.

Phil was such a warm, fun loving person and enjoyed life to the fullest. We all loved him so much and will miss him terribly.

The family will receive friends at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 1pm till the service begins at 2pm.

The family would like to thank Pastor Jesse Lough for officiating the service, and also a special thank you to the Pensacola Memorial Garden and Funeral Home staff for the great assistance they provided to the family.
