Mary Elizabeth Matthey, 89, of Pensacola died January 21, 2023. She was born at the Jameson Number 9 Mining Camp, West Virginia and has been a resident of the Pensacola area for 67 years. She was employed by the Escambia County School District in the accounts payable department for 25 years. Mary was also a member of the Leonard Street Church of Christ and an artist and member of Quayside Art Gallery. She loved art, crafting, the beach and taking care of her family.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Orda and Orla Ware; brother, Murl (Bud) Ware; sisters, Imogene (Jean) Hovatter and Mildred Schepis.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, David R. Matthey; daughters, Elizabeth McCarver, Susie Leggett, Lisa (Andy) Pyritz; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The family will accept friends for visitation from 12-1pm Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with the service to follow at 1:00pm. Pastor Jeff Stacy of the Leonard Street Church of Christ will officiate and interment will take place in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
