Mary Aberg • December 15, 2021
Mary Aberg, age 96, passed away on December 15, 2021. May was born in Pensacola on January 17, 1925 and was raised in Pleasant Grove. After graduation from Pensacola High School, Mom met the love of her life, our Dad Erik, a marine stationed at the Naval Air Station during WWII before being deployed to the South Pacific.
Mary and Erik were married in 1944 after his return and enjoyed 55 years together. Mary worked as an accountant in civil service at the navy base and continued as a consultant after retirement.
Mom and Dad had numerous adventures and interests. Mary loved telling stories of them hiking over 1000 miles of the Appalachian Trail. During her consulting years they lived in many areas of the country, finally deciding to build a beautiful log cabin on the Little Pigeon River in the Smokies. There they stayed while Mom honed her considerable artistic skills and enjoyed retirement. When Dad passed away in 1999, Mary moved back to her townhouse at Perdido Bay Country Club. During those last years, she pursued quality time with family and loved ones.
Mary loved people and people loved her. She was smart, kind, and energetic (nicknamed “go go” girl) and always had a smile and a good word for everyone. She will be greatly missed.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Lynis; son, Jan; daughter-in-law, Donna; and her two favorite nieces Della and Theola.
A visitation to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 2PM-4PM.
