Lowery Thomas Simmons, age 97 of Pensacola, Florida passed away on January 1, 2023. Lowery was born in Louin, Mississippi and lived in the Pensacola area for 65 years. He retired from Escambia County where he was a high school teacher for 45 years; prior to teaching, he served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pensacola.
Lowery is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jimmie W. Simmons; daughters, Gayle Marie Wentz (Craig) and Patricia June Simmons; son, William Davis (Oxana); grandchildren, Thomas Wentz, Audrey Waldrop (Jon), Cameron Brown (Tonya), Leah Shae Chinchilla (Fernando), Eric Simmons, and Sarah Simmons; 5 great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members.
A visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 10:30AM-12PM with a service to follow immediately after. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
