Kay T. Reed • November 29, 2021
God called his faithful servant, Kay Reed, to her heavenly home on Monday, November 29, 2021. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side. We are heartbroken and have sadness for our loss, but we have joy in our hearts for her that she is with her heavenly father, her husband, and family that have gone on before her.
Kay was born in Georgiana, Alabama on December 28, 1927 to Robert and Gladys Traweek. She grew up in Flomaton, Alabama. Kay married the love of her life, James Reed on May 26, 1945. As a couple, they lived in Pensacola and raised their 3 children, Jimmy, Robin and Suzanne. Kay worked and retired from the Escambia County School District as a teacher’s aide. She spent most of her career time at Sherwood Elementary School. Kay and James loved the Smokey Mountains. They spent a lot of time at their cabin in North Carolina. Mother would say that “God’s beauty was something to see…”
Kay loved and was dedicated to her family and her church, Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. She was an angel, always had the perfect words of wisdom and comfort when you needed them most. We loved her so much.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Reed, Sr.; her parents, Robert E. Traweek, Sr. and Gladys Cox Traweek; and her brother, Robert E. Traweek, Jr.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Jim (Cyndi) Reed and Robin (Jan) Reed; her daughter, Suzanne (Paul) Slavin; 3 grandchildren, Katelin Reed, Zach Slavin and Daniela Slavin; her nephew, Scott Traweek; and her special cousin, Karen Newton Carden (Lonnie).
Our family would like to thank the staff at Waterford at Carpenter’s Creek for the care provided and the good times she had while she resided there.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. 5920 Lillian Highway, Pensacola, Florida 32506.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens in Pensacola, Florida from 12:00PM-1:00PM with a funeral service to follow. Pastor Ron Lentine and Pastor Dr. Josh Morea will be officiating.
Pallbearers will include, Donnie Reed, John Dominey, and Bobby Ricks.
