John Van Gestel • March 4, 2022

John E Van Gestel went home to be with our Lord on Friday March 4, 2022. John passed surrounded by his loving family in his home.

John was preceded in death by his father Alexander Van Gestel, mother Christine Merc, father in-law Alexander Trommelen, mother in-law Edwina Trommelen, sister Ziska Wendijk, sister Ruth Van Gestel, brother Joseph Van Gestel, brother in law Ronald Williamson, and brother in law Raymond Whitney.

He was survived by his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Magdalena Van Gestel; son Jeff (Angie) Van Gestel, son Cliff (Jessica) Van Gestel, and daughter Jennifer (Scott) Larson; His grandchildren: Kayla (Sean) Derr, Zachary Van Gestel, Jessica (Jordan) Marshall, Ian Van Gestel, Gabriel Van Gestel, Samuel Van Gestel; His sisters: Ester Berest, Martha Middleton; sisters-in-law: Maureen Williamson, Rosaline Whitney; brothers-in-law: Reggie (Debbie)Trommelen, Armand Trommelen, Emile (Donna) Trommelen, Frank (Dianne) Trommelen; and many nephews and nieces.

John was born in Indonesia on January 5th, 1940. He left for Holland and served in the Dutch Army. Soon after moving to Holland he met Magdalena and in 1962 immigrated to the US to live the American dream. He attended barber college on a full scholarship and graduated in 1963. He then started his career working as a hairstylist in various locations throughout Pensacola. John later established his own shop, California Concept, and built a large clientele of which many became lifelong friends.

John spent his life loving and caring for his wife and family. So many wonderful memories were made. From big family gatherings, family vacations, and fishing along the coast of Pensacola.

He was a God fearing man who loved our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of Pace Assembly of God for over 30 yrs. It brings us comfort in knowing that he now rests in the arms of the Lord.

A visitation will be held at Pace Assembly of God on Monday March 14th, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with service starting at 1:00 pm.

The family would like to thank Covenant Care Hospice for their care and compassion during this time.

    My dear uncle John, a young brother of my mother who also made her journey to heaven only eight months ago and will be there to welcome him with open arms and embrace him once again after being apart for many years. I met my uncle and aunt Magda and my cousins briefly when we visited Pensacola and took home fond and fun memories. R.I.P uncle John.
