Jessica Lynette Monge • August 26, 2019
My charismatic and bubbly daughter, Jessica Lynette Monge, age 29, passed away unexpectedly, Monday morning from a drug overdose at her home in Waterbury, CT.
Jessica was the oldest of three children who was born and raised in Pensacola, FL on August 17, 1990, daughter of Rebecca M. Mates and the late Robert Monge. She loved being a big sister to her two brothers and a mom to her son Levi even more. She was a graduate of Pine Forest High School. Her first job, she worked for the Escambia County, Florida, Department of Education. Later, she found her niche at Windham Resort on Pensacola Beach, where she worked for 9 years. After moving to Connecticut Jessica was a friendly clerk at Cumberland Farms.
On the outside, Jessica was compassionate and caring. She always had a huge smile that would light up any room. She was devoted to her friends and accepted everyone without judgment. She also liked to be in charge and was good at what she did. On the inside, Jessica was sensitive and had struggles that she hid from her family and close friends.
We loved Jessica with all of our hearts, but we now know that was not enough to shield her from this disease. This tribute is not an attempt to assign blame for Jessica’s death. Nor is it to vent our anger and frustration at a world where drugs are so prevalent. We write this obituary in hopes to help others deal with similar demons, to know they are not alone, and to help them potentially change their behavior one day at a time.
Jessica is survived by her beautiful and amazing son Levi, her mother Rebecca and stepfather Michael Lutts, maternal grandfather John Mates Sr., paternal grandmother Grace Mendez and her husband Andres Mendez, her brothers Anthony and Joseph Lutts, her uncle Mark Mates and his wife Sarah, her uncle John Mates and his wife Renisha and her aunt Barbie Sommer as well as her step-grandmother Kathy Mates, and extended family and friends all over the country. She was preceded by her father Robert Monge, her maternal grandmother, Gloria Rockwell, and paternal grandfather Ismael Monge Jr.
A celebration of Jessica’s life will be held in Waterbury, at Verdi Restaurant, 660 Park Rd. in Waterbury, on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 1:00-3:00pm. Additional services will be held in her hometown of Pensacola, FL, on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens, 7433 Pine Forest Rd., Pensacola at 1:00pm. Burial will immediately follow the service. Jessica’s family will continue her memorial after the burial and invite you to join them at Anthony’s Restaurant, 11117 Lillian Hwy, Pensacola. A GoFundMe page has been set up for memorial contributions in Jessica’s name. Please make donations online: gf.me./u/u3b94k.
