James Spence Rushing, III • March 19, 2021

James “Jim” Rushing, an Air Force Veteran, met God’s Glory on March 19th, 2021.

Jim was born on April 5th, 1948 to James and Jewell Rushing in Tampa Florida. He graduated in Pensacola, Florida from Woodham High School in 1967.

Afterwards, he joined the military as a Security Patrolman, where he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. He met and married the love of his life, Sherry in 1969, but subsequently, after he was abruptly retired due to illness, the two transferred back to Pensacola. Shortly thereafter, Jim landed a job at Armstrong World Industries and kicked off a 31 year career. Additionally , he volunteered with the Warrington Fire Department, where he later mastered the position of Chief.

Jim enjoyed life and everything about it! Softball, golf, bowling, tennis and fishing in his earlier days; and traveling, kayaking, flying RC planes, metal detecting, shooting and reloading in the later years. He did it all…he even earned his glider Pilot license.

Jim is survived by his two children, Steve Rushing and Shannan Herman, his son-in-laws, Shane Herman and Colby Frazier, and his three grandchildren, Jessica Frazier, Branden Viera and Riley Herman.

Although he will be missed beyond measures, the family is comforted by knowing he is home with our sweet Jesus, his bride, mother and brother, and the many friends that have passed on before him.

  3. Shane Herman says:

I meet Jim’s son Steve in the mid 90’s in Virginia while on active duty in the Army. Later while attending a school at Naval Air Station Pensacola Florida Steve was visiting his family and invited me to meet his mom and dad. Little did I know that many years later I would have the honor of calling his daughter my wife. Jim was a man of many hobbies and he enjoyed them all. He final days were in our home and I ounce again assured him I would take care of his daughter and grandchildren. We had some long late night talks in those final days. I know that he is with our father in heaven now and free of pain. Seeing Jesus with his own eyes. Flying with his own set of wings now. God bless. We will see you again. Love always, your son-in-law, Shane.

  4. John Bolyard says:

I enjoyed flying in a glider with Jim. He wowed us by flying his RC planes around our glider port at Elsanor. He is gone too soon and will be missed by us all.
