Don was a self-made man. He was proud of the hard work and perseverance that was reflected in his many accomplishments. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1962 with a degree in Physical Education. He started his career as a PE and History teacher in Rossville, Kansas. After a couple of years he joined the management training program at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka, Kansas. Over the years he rose to become both a plant manager and ultimately a director for the company and its subsidiary Kelly-Springfield, in many locations. His many years of service culminated with his retirement in 1997 in Gadsden, Alabama.

In 1959 at KU, Don met the love of his life Cynthia Conrad. They married in 1960. Don and Cynthia traveled extensively, with his career and on their own as they checked off many locations in the US, Europe and around the world. Exotic locales such as Luxembourg, Brazil, Egypt, Alaska and many more were favorites. Together they enjoyed golf and cowboy action shooting, winning many competitions around the U.S.

Don was a man of many interests and hobbies. Whatever his current passion was he gave it 110%! From creative writing to woodworking, gun-smithing to creating authentic historical costumes he was very innovative. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, boating and hunting. Don was a devoted student of genealogy, American history and Egyptology. He had a love of birds, trees and nature. He was an enthusiastic collector and saver of interesting things, from his childhood toys to interesting wood burls and everything in between.

A service of remembrance will be held on Friday October 21st at 2pm at Pensacola Memorial Gardens officiated by Chaplain Chip Swanson.
The celebration of life party that Don specifically requested will be held following the service at the home of Tammie & Pat Everly.

  2. Lura Lilya Granberryn says:

My husband Don Lilya and I knew Don and Cynthia Tusher in the 70s in Freeport IL. We became close friends and shared many good times! I was privileged to go with Don and Cynthia on their trip to Egypt. It was of the best trips ever! Don had a great sense of humor. He also introduced me to the Kansas Jayhawks which became a big part of my life when we moved to Topeka, KS in 1984 and later our son attended Kansas University and became a Jayhawks. You will be missed, dear friend! Love to Cynthia and the family❤️
