Gordon Stanley Melton • December 17, 2021



Gordon S. Melton, of Pensacola, Florida passed away December 17, 2021 from complications of diabetes and kidney failure.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Pearl Melton and Claude Melton.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan T. Melton; his two children, Rachel (Timothy) Nixon and Nathan Melton; one grandson, Cameron Nixon; sister, Jean Mason of Seattle, Washington; brother, James Melton of North Carolina; also, several nieces and nephews.

He is of the Baptist faith and retired from a 36 year career in Law Enforcement. He received great joy from his life-long involvement with Boy Scouts serving as Cub Master and Scout Master. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and also became a 32nd degree mason. He volunteered with Pine Forest Marching Band. He spent many happy hours taking his kids to Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Church functions, Band practice and football games, plus #1 babysit for his grandson, Cam. His kindness and patience were legendary. He used those qualities so well in dealing with people he encountered throughout life. He was “Too beautiful for this world.”

A visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 form 9:30am until the service begins at 10:30am.

    We are sorry to hear of Gordon’s death. We knew him as a young man and friend of my son, Geary Newman. Also, he worked for a while, part time in my insurance agency. He was a good man.
