George A. McCroan • May 8, 2023

George A. McCroan, age 92 of Pensacola, Florida, passed peacefully and entered into his Heavenly home on May 8, 2023. He was born in Altha, Florida to Perry & Mary Jane McCroan on December 5, 1930. From 1951-1954, George proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany.

George was an active member of Marcus Pointe Baptist Church; he was especially active in their Prime Timers group that loved to travel. George and his loving wife of 64 years, Hella, enjoyed traveling very much. He worked for Gulf Power Company for 33 years. After retiring, he began honing his woodworking skills, crafting with precision and detail, a love he shared with his brother, JP.

Having grown up “in the country”, George planted a garden every year until his health began to decline. He took great pride in tending to his annual garden. He volunteered at the monthly Barn Meeting in Molino for many years; he enjoyed watching westerns and reading books by Louis L’Amour, Tom Clancy, and John Grisham. George was a family man that reveled in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Mary Jane McCroan; his sister, Zelma Frost; his brothers, JP McCroan and Ken “Carroll” McCroan; his brother-in-law, Bill Frost; and sisters-in-law, Lucille McCroan and Dot McCroan.

He is survived by his wife, Hella McCroan of Pensacola, Florida; daughter, Elaine McCroan of Pensacola, Florida; son, George McCroan Jr. (Lynn) of Tallahassee, Florida; stepson, Robert Smith of Daphne, Alabama; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10AM-11AM with a service immediately following.

Pallbearers will be George McCroan Jr., George McCroan III, Robert Smith, Cody Smith, and Dylan Mancuso.

The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice for the love, care, attention and compassion given to George during his illness.

In lieu of flowers for those that wish, contributions can be made to Emerald Coast Hospice in George’s honor.
