Fred was born on September 9, 1930 in Bowlegs, Oklahoma. At age 7 the family moved to Newberg, Oregon. He graduated from Newberg High School in 1948.
After graduation he and classmate Bob Tripp joined the Navy. While stationed at Green Cove Springs, Florida he met Venita Johns his wife of 62 years (deceased 12/12/2011).
Leaving the Navy Fred begins his career with Eastman Kodak. During his 34 years with Kodak there were several promotions and transfers from Jacksonville, Florida, West Palm Beach, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, and finally retiring as Service Manager in Birmingham, Alabama.
Fred quickly became a Roll Tide-Alabama full time football fan. This came with many stories of traveling to watch the games with very close friends. These friends became family.
Fred enjoyed living on Smith Lake, Arley, Alabama and Perdido Bay, Florida always making sure friends and family had plenty of boating and water experiences.
In April 2016 Fred married Pollie Howell. In 2017 they traveled to Newberg, Oregon to attend Fred’s 69th high school reunion. Fred enjoyed introducing her to his classmates and showing her the West Coast of the United States. Pollie was a devoted companion and caretaker as Fred’s health was challenged.
Fred enjoys the frequent visits of his daughters Arla and Lou Ann and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They know that “P” or “Granddad” would have plenty of Tillamook ice cream ready during their stay.
If you ask Fred who is your buddy he will answer Buster. Buster is the Neighbor (Jeanette) dog who visits every night for dog treats come rain or shine. Buster will always be remembered by our family at 6 PM.
We must mention the excellent care given Fred by the Comfort Care Team (Kenya, Abigail, Faye). Also we were blessed to have the excellent caregivers Gina, Bree and Dale to help with Fred.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, August 7th from 1:00-2:00pm with funeral services to start at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
