David Michael Bailey • August 6, 2021
David Michael Bailey, 74, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on August 6, 2021, in his home in Cantonment, Florida.
Dave was born on February 26, 1947 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is the son of John and Ruth Bailey, brother to Anne and Rachel, husband to Virginia Bailey, and father to Dianna, Chris, Kim, and Sharron.
He had the most compassionate heart without judgement for any decision you made. He knew the meaning of second chances as he was adopted by his family at a young age and always joked that he “made it out of the burlap sack with kittens”. Dave knew the meaning of hard work and was exemplary when it came to his own career. After graduating Eastwood High School in El Paso, Texas, he was drafted in the U.S. Navy where he graduated as a Special Duty Rescue Crewman in 1968 at NAS Ellyson, Pensacola, Florida. He was deployed to Japan in May of 1969 where he served as an air crewman for helicopters during the Vietnam War. After his time in the Navy, he enrolled in technical college and later began his own Teletronics business repairing various office equipment. During this time, he met his wife Virginia in 1971 and they married November 23, 1973. When Dave was not working, he loved spending time fishing, enjoying great food and drinks, and fixing things with his son and granddaughter Maranda.
Dave’s presence was always known thanks to his incredible height and slender frame that he always had since he was a young boy. The charm that came with him came naturally, allowing himself to make light out of every situation, even up to his last days. He knew how to make everyone smile with his dad jokes and was always around to lend a helping hand no questions asked. If there was a problem he couldn’t solve for you, he would make sure he would research the best possible measure to take in order for you to be successful. He was one of a quiet strength, not easily angered, and wanted for nothing. He showed his love for you by the actions of his service not by his words. Between his stories with his buddies during his youth and his jokes he would play on his wife and kids, his kind, compassionate heart will be missed. I’m sure he is enjoying his time with his father, fishing, and relaxing in peace.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00PM on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 7433 Pine Forest Road Pensacola, Florida 32583.
