D. Alan Dean, Jr. of Pensacola, Florida passed away on November 5, 2020 at the age of 66. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during his enlistment. After returning to Pensacola, Alan earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from the University of West Florida and his studies at the university included an internship in San Jose, Costa Rica to teach English. Alan served as a volunteer in the Peace Corps in the northern region of Mindanao in the Republic of the Philippines after obtaining his degree. Alan loved speaking in German, Spanish, Tagolog and Cebuano, a popular language or dialect of Northern Mindanao, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of these different languages with family and friends. Alan was a long-time member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, joining over fifty-five years ago.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, Durward Alan Dean, Sr., and his oldest sister, Debra Ann Dean. He is survived by his mother Arleda Steeley Dean, sisters, Leah D. Gillis (James Patrick) of Pensacola Beach, Fl. and Rebecca Dean-Davis of Pensacola, Fl. In addition, he is survived by his nephews, Joshua Davis and Jeremy Davis, and his niece, Jessica Gillis, plus his Aunt Nell Marie Steeley and numerous cousins.
A visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 1 pm until the service begins at 2 pm.
