He was born on June 4, 1925 in Paige, Texas to Wesley and Emma McPhaul. Clayton was employed with the US Navy and served in the Korean War and World War II. He was a member of Pensacola Baptist Temple, and the VFW as well as Master Mason Far East Lodge #1 in Yokohama, Japan and a member of the Fleet Reserve.
Clayton is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy McPhaul; children, Linda Saighman (Kevin), Debra Smothers (Richard), David McPhaul, and Donald McPhaul; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Home Healthcare nurses for their heartfelt care and compassion during this time.
A visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 2pm until the service begins at 3pm. A burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on September 3, 2020.
