Carolyn Annette Shields • December 27, 2021

Carolyn Annette Shields, 83, of Cantonment passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021.

Mrs. Shields was born in Graceville, Florida on April 14, 1938 to Curtis and Ethel Skinner.

Heaven gained another amazing angel. Carolyn was the best at being a Wife to her husband, Mother to her children, Nonie (grandmother and great grandmother) to her grandkids, sister to her siblings, aunt and most of all a friend. She leaves behind that same spirit inside of them. She loved to make everyone happy and she wasn’t satisfied until you were. Her endearing love and kindness meant she never met a person she didn’t want to make family. Through her love, our family extended exponentially throughout the years as she ‘adopted’ those she met and welcomed them as one of our own.

Carolyn married Frank Shields who preceded her in death after almost 60 years of marriage. Together they attended Milestone Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother.

Survivors include her four children, Nancy Shields (Bruce), Frankie Shields (Cheri), Melonee Shields and Ramona Shields (Jose); step-mother, Sylvia Skinner; siblings, William Skinner (Carol), DeWayne Skinner, and Elaine Todd (Richard); step-sister, Teresa Girton (Steve); grandchildren, Harvey Cardwell (Carlie), Miranda Cardwell, Amy Dooley (James), Randee Shields (William), and Samantha Shields (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Adalia and Amelia Beaulieu, Aylen Pantages-Shields, David Spear, Wilson and Lewis Cardwell, and Jackson Dooley; as well as, beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

Due to the COVID situation the family has selected to have private services at this time. A memorial service may be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Milestone Baptist Church, 3800 Pine Forest Road, Cantonment, Florida 32533.

The service will be available via live webcast for anyone that cannot attend. 1. Miranda Cardwell says:

    As much as I truly hate she had to go on home to her permanent address, I am so thankful that Nonie is no longer having to be without her soulmate & best friend (My papaw). I know that she’s forever happy & no longer having to endure any type of pains. I miss the never ending nurturing & loving heart she extended to all. And of course I am going to miss her never ending left overs that “she couldn’t fit in her fridge”, that made everyone so full they couldn’t hardly stay awake after each & every gathering. The love, laughter & good food will be forever missed!

  2. Bruce says:

    Forever a hole in our hearts. God bless this family. Each and every one of you are in my heart which hurts along with yours. My pain is real, as I stand by Nancy with all my love forever. Carolyn made some incredible children, and her legacy of kindness has truly transcended through the generations. I miss you “Momma”, as much as I miss many of my own family members. Smile down on us all, as we all continue with our day to day lives until we see you again. Frank… time to dance in heaven.

  3. Melonee Shields says:

    I love you momma and miss your sweet hands and phone calls so much already. My heart is broken that you had to suffer an ounce. It’s my belief you shouldn’t have. I’m still talking with God about that one. You brought me to life more times than you know on this earth. I was blessed to call you momma. Your in my heart sweet Angel.

  4. Adrianne Hunt says:

    My heart broken 💔 thanks for the PRIVILEGE of meeting your WOUNDERFUL Mother 👩 💔

  5. Ramona Shields says:

    Where do I begin.
    Mom was so many wonderful things how can I summarize her and her life within a few minutes. I will try to encompass all the things that my mom is to me. She is good, she is kind, she is beautiful (both on the outside and the inside) she represents holiness, God and angels. I have been blessed in my life with Carolyn Shields as my guide. Not everyone is as fortunate to have such an amazing and wonderful mother to guide them in their life for so many years. I try to remember this as I mourn my mothers departure from this physical earth. I try to remember that she is a part of me, she’s a part of everyone that she has touched in this life and she continues to live within each of us.

    I recall some special times with my mother such as: when I would sit on the kitchen counter and swing my legs in the Lazy Susan and watch her cook – she was teaching me the love and the art of cooking;

    I remember sitting with her in the outside swing at the point drinking coffee, watching and smelling the rain come across the bay, the wind blowing through our hair, the sound of our little house dresses rustling, we spoke of deep thoughts and emotions – she was teaching me the art of contemplation and reflection;

    I remember times of laughter – laughing so hard at ourselves that we cried – she was teaching me the art of managing humility through humor;

    I remember many shopping sprees with long sweet lunches discussing and contemplating the meaning of life, the meaning of one’s actions and planning one’s futures – She was teaching me the art of being a woman with strength, femininity and conscience.

    My mom was many things for me, she was my guide, she was my friend, she was my adventure partner (my parents called us the three musketeers), she was my discipline, she was my conscience, she was my teacher, she was sweetness, and she was love.

    I will continue to talk to my mother every day, she is forever in my heart. She has found her home in heaven, she is at peace with god and her earthly soulmate my father.

    Thank you God for allowing your Angel Carolyn Shields to be among us for so many years.

    This world will miss Carolyn Shields. She was a lady of such grace. There are not enough words to explain what a wonderful wife and mother she was. God bless you Miss Carol. You’ll never know how you touched my life. May you and Mr. Frank continue your love story in heaven. Our world will be lonelier without you.❤
