Sergeant First Class (U.S. Army Retired) James Edward Crutcher, age 80, of Pensacola, Florida, went peacefully to be with his Savior on Thursday, March 4, 2010.
He was born December 28, 1929 in Jackson, Tennessee. He was the youngest of four children born to the late Howard Allen and Clara Annie Collins Crutcher.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Crutcher was preceded in death by his brothers Howard Allen Crutcher, Jr. and Horace D. Crutcher.
James served his country faithfully and honorably in the United States Army for 21 years, with his duty to include two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea. After retiring from the Army in 1971, he became employed by the United States Postal Service as a clerk and made Pensacola his home. He retired from the Postal Service in 1992. He was a member of Pensacola Baptist Temple.
He married his wife Gladys November 14, 1992, and accepted her family as his own. Missing him greatly are his devoted daughter Gloria Young; son-in-law Greg Young; granddaughter Aim'ee Lauren Crutcher Young; grandson Kyle Hunter Young and sister Clara Crutcher. His daughter was the joy of his life. Raising her since the age of 5, he and Gloria shared a tremendous love for one another. Mr. Crutcher was blessed to have a special relationship with his "adopted" daughter Sandy Reavis and her family.
Too numerous to mention are his close friends and family, whom he enjoyed spending not only time with, but yeast rolls, milkshakes, pies, cakes, and unconditional love and laughter.
The family of Mr. Crutcher wishes to express special thanks to Drs. James Smith, Raul Ramos, John Bray, Frank Greskovich, Steven Eilen, and Sally Grace ARNP; Sacred Heart Hospital staff, and Covenant Hospice of Daphne, Alabama.
Pall Bearers will include Greg Young, Kyle Young, Tom Hamton, Dr. Ron Symonds, Jim Pierce, and Eric Pierce.
Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm, Monday, March 8th, 2010 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 9th at 12 noon at the chapel of Pensacola Memorial Gardens with burial to follow at Barrancas National Cemetary, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, with full military rites.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Started work together at post office on same day
Gloria, I know that you probably don't remember be, but I truly loved "Sarge". We started to work on the same day in the Post Office, he even used his truck and brought some furniture to our house from the furniture store for me. We studied "schemes" together, worked together and laughed together. After God made him, He broke the mold. You and your family are in our prayers. Steve Woodfin
